I've been watching the new program on Colors channel, titled 'Jaane Kya Baat Hui'. So far, the hubby is shown to be a typical all knowing, superior male who speaks to his wife as if she has been born on this earth to be his slave-this, despite the fact that she is portrayed as an intelligent, educated and well brought up woman. She wants to have kids but it takes two to tango as we know, so since the hubby doesn't want to be pinned down with the burden/responsibility of a kid which would get in the way of his philandering and 'cool' lifestyle, they are at a deadlock over this. She has this vacuum in her life but desperately loves her hubby and makes him the center of her existence (don't we all make this mistake?!)-he of course is the dashing, very successful entrepreneur who ably juggles his office work and affairs with various women employees-with a kind touch or look thrown in occasionally at his wife to keep her satisfied.
The only saving grace that this woman has in store for her is the strong willed and very fair minded mom in law(oh how we pine for more of those around!)who supports her at every step and encourages her to make a life beyond her hubby, who also happens to be her son. Anyway, she is persuaded one fine day by mom in law to join her hubby at work- he plots to make her fail at her projects and ensures she resigns and stays put at home. And the story goes on which we could analyze some more at a later date to extract gems of relevant info, which may foster a better world for women by and by.
Mom in law's character completely impresses me and though I have yet to come across anyone like her in real life, there obviously would be people like her around, as art imitates life doesn't it? I fervently hope so. Surely a woman doesn't need to take 'permission' to do things such as work, sleep, eat, dress,go out and so on. I have heard women mention very matter of factly in conversations that they are 'allowed' to and 'not allowed' to do things by hubby and his family. Do women resemble cows and goats who have to be shepherded along life to reach anywhere meaningful?
